Here is a google docs quiz for my students over informational text structures. I really liked using google docs. I was surprised at how easy the quiz was to create. I think I will be using this quite a bit in class for guided reading and pop quizes.

In luie of using google reader I decided to explore pintrest a bit.

I am also now learning how cool pintrest is! check out my education board! http://pinterest.com/athomas2010/classroom-stuff/
Or if your bored... check out this board!
http://pinterest.com/athomas2010/crafts/ I really like to craft and make things so this board is a great place for me to keep track of all my projects.

Pintrest is really easy to use and a great place to store everything all in one central location. I don't know that I will use it alot with my students but I definately think I will use it to come up with some great ideas to bring back to the classroom. I recently found some really cool ideas for classroom decorations on here. I am going to use some of the projects to decorate my room next year like a medieval knights hall.

And now for a Wiki! It's not my favorite tool but I can see how it would be useful. escpecially in a higher level classroom or for group projects where collaberation is required. I didn't really feel that it was user friendly enough for my 6th graders to grasp but hopefully I can find a way to work it into the classroom at some point because it is an interesting tool. I tried recently to teach them about reliable websites and they are getting confused as to why a wiki such as wikipedia is not a good tool for research but is a good coloaberative tool for projects.

And to add to the eclectic mix of nonsense on here, here is a video teaser for the novel my class is about to read! Animoto is a great tool in theory but I felt like the movies were too short and that I wasn't able to get everything in. My boys did really enjoy the teaser I created though, so maybe I will be able to use it some in the classroom. I'm thinking of having them use it as an intro tool for thier research presentations.

I was lucky enough to be able to attend a training on a program called Powtoon. I LOVE this program! It is a cross between animoto and powerpoint and it is SO user friendly. You create animated slides for a presentation which you can either set to move automatically or at your click. It is really fun to play with and create the videos which is really the key to being able to encorporate technology into the classroom. I am having alot of trouble gettign the video to embed on the page so I am going to just add the link to it instead. Hope you enjoy!

  1. Surprisingly the google doc wasnt difficult to create. I am pretty likely to actually use it with my students.

  2. I recently made an attempt at using some technology with my students. They really responded well to the google docs quiz and they greatly enjoyed the powtoon movie I showed them. They are starting thier own projects now and while most of them are like me and staying on the safe route with powepoint. A few of them are venturing out an d trying glogster and powtoon to create thier presentations. Usisng these tools will probably never come naturally to me but my students and I have really been working to think outside the box and push our comfort levels where technology is concerned. It is a work in progress but so far it is paying off.

  4. I really dig the embedded Google Drive questionnaire. I know an extra click isn't that much effort, but not having to actually click to a new site for some reason is so much easier.

  5. This is a really great blog. The Glog you created was very well done, and I like the Google Doc as well. A very simple way to put it to actual use for the students. The use of Pinterest to track classroom ideas is a good one as well. You can tell that effort was put into this blog. Fantastic!
